The Native Hawaiian population had dropped down to about 40,000. Deaths were attributed to a number of “new” diseases including smallpox, measles, influenza, sexually transmitted disease, whooping cough, and the common cold.
There is a variety in the ethnic groups, in Hawaii; 38.6% of the population is Asian, 24.7% is white, 10% is Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islanders, 8.9% is Hispanic, 1.6% is Black or African American, 0.3% is American Indian and Alaska Native, and 23.6% of all Hawaii residents are multi-ethnic.
Hawaii has a very large population and it affects the island tremendously. There is a lot of predictions about Hawaii’s tourism and that in the year 1776 until 2076 Hawaii will become very hectic. By the year 2030, there will be 7,000,000,000 tickets sold, and supplies will not last. Food and materials tend to get shipped out to Hawaii which is the reason the cost of living is very expensive. It was also predicted in this study that flying will become more expensive than it is now. Even though tourism is a good thing it can also be very bad in certain circumstances for everyone. Shortages are occurring quicker, new/ renewed diseases are spreading faster, environmental refugees, and climate change.
A quote that was being used said “If we act as if it matters and it doesn’t matter, then, no matter but if we act as if it doesn’t matter and it matters, then it matters. Let’s make it matter.” (Dator, Yeoman, 2015) This quote is very powerful and it does have a lot of meaning because it talks about tourism. Tourism in Hawaii is really needed but we must take action of what is happening before it is too late and people from Hawaii are losing their homes and moving away from where they were born and raised. Also by taking action we must limit our supply and try to make our resources last longer than what they did before.
